FAQ
Yes, the Kedarnath trek starts from Gaurikund, and pilgrims have to cover 16 kms to reach the temple. The trek is moderately steep at some points, and adequate fitness is advised for pilgrims visiting Kedarnath. For senior citizens and children, there are facilities of Kandi, Palki, and Mules. Proper facilities of drinking water and small shops are there in the trek route. Also, there is a helicopter service from Phata and other helipads to Kedarnath.
Please note that these are high altitude areas, and thus it is advised that people who have any respiratory problems or cardiovascular problems seek a doctor’s advice before venturing to these areas.
Yes, but medical fitness is required due to high altitude and trekking.
Limited connectivity is available, especially near Kedarnath.
Number of pilgrims visiting Badrinath depends upon the season and weather conditions. Huge pilgrims turnout can be seen from opening of shrine till June end. Its goes from 20,000 to 30,000 per day. During monsoon pilgrim stats drop down to 3000-4000 daily. But from September till closing of the shrine, more than 10,000 pilgrims visit per day.
There are various types of Puja one can perform inside the temple. But due to heavy rush of pilgrims, there is a system for performing Puja. One can pre book the slot for Puja by phone to Badri-Kedar Temple Samiti. There are numerous types of Pujas performed in Badrinath
As the Kedarnath trek is situated in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, pilgrims are not allowed to trek any time. In the morning, the trek starts from Gaurikund at 04:00 am and stops at 01:30 pm. No pilgrims are allowed to leave after this specific time.
Every Year Kedarnath Yatra begins from the month of April or May onwards (Akshay Tritya) and continues until Bhai Dooj after Diwali. After Bhai Dooj doors of the shrine remain close for the next five or six months due to heavy snow fall and very cold weather as all the shrine is located in the Himalayan Mountain where life is not easy to survive due to uncertain weather conditions.
